Class D audio amplifiers

ccThe Class D amplifiers gained big popularity during the recent years. The main advantage of the Class D is in the high power efficiency, which exceeds 90% in the medium or high power applications. The improved power efficiency translates into the smaller size of the heat sink, the material and the cost savings and the longer operating hours for the battery-powered devices. However, the optimization of a Class D amplifier is complicated and requires special knowledge. We design analog and digital Class D amplifiers. Below are some examples of our designs.

ccThis small DSP controlled Class D audio amplifier is 95% efficient and delivers 600W. The output stage uses DirectFET™ transistors from International Rectifier. The size of the heatsink is 60x100mm.

ccThe amplifiers include the 1-, 2-, 4- and 4.1 channel models. The sustained output power is 200W per channel for 2- and 4- channel variants, and 500/1000W for 1-channel models. The outputs can be connected in a bridge configuration to double the output power. The DSP preamplifier performs adjustable crossover filtering, bass boost and automatic equalization. The amplifiers use analog self-oscillating topology.
ccThe power supply with synchronous rectification allows for better power conversion efficiency and eliminates rail pumping effect specific to the half-bridge class-D output stages.
